The Elks, who have clinched the American League pennant, suffered their first defeat at the hands of B. Altman & Co., 4-2. Altman fashioned the upset on outstanding pitching by Mark Zielinski, key hits by Jeff Schmidt, Richie Beggs and Jim Chominsky, and sparkling defense by Tim Grochowski and Tim Caughey. Jim Harrison, Bill Wilde and Pat Murphy led the Elks’ attack.
