Phil Place’s single in the last of the sixth scored Marty Lefkowitz with the tie-breaking run with enabled Lefkowitz, who pitched a one-hitter, to hang up a hard-earned 3-2 victory over the Lions and Al Stone on Thursday.
The Lions took a two-run edge on runs in the second and third, both scored without a hit. Four walks did the trick in the second and three passes and an infield out in the third.
The Elks tied it with single tallies in the third and fourth. Two singles by Johnny Vanderveer and one by Bob Newhouse sparked the rallies.
