In another sloppy slugging match in which the losers made eight errors, the Elks whaled the Lions 16-10 on Wednesday overcoming a three-run deficit with a nine-run last-inning rally.
Phil Place, with three doubles, Jimmy Caravillano, with a homer and single, and Johnny Vanderveer, with a double and single sparked the winners’ attack. Bob Newhouse, who relieved Vanderveer after a wild first inning, went on to get the win.
