The Kiwanis Club reigns supreme in local Little League circles this week, sporting a 3-0 record and leading the four team local loop. Kiwanis took advantage of Junior Chamber fielding lapses to gain a hard-fought 4-1 victory in the most recent Little League contest Tuesday afternoon.

Bob Usher was the winning pitcher, giving up only three hits, walking but two, and whiffing thirteen, while Chuck Roedema was charged with the loss for the Junior Chamber, as he was touched for four safeties, walked three, and struck out eight.

The Junior Chamber took an early lead in the first, but Kiwanis answered with a three run third to sew up the win.

Roedema and third baseman Johnny Vanderveer pulled a double rock in the infield which was responsible for the Kiwanis rally. With one out, backstop Ray Reardon reached first on a bunt which Vanderveer and Roedema let die between them for a single.

D’Ziadosz struck out, in the play that should have ended the inning, but Mort Lefkowitz was hit by a pitched ball and with the extra life gained by the fielding lapse, Frank Papa slapped a hot shot through the middle which eluded pitcher Roedema and second baseman Heine, was fumbled in the outfield, and went for a three run homer.

D’Ziadosz, who hit sharply twice, clubbed a long home run in the fifth to end the days scoring. The only other extra base blow was a double by the Junior Chamber’s John Vanderveer, which became merely a long out, as John failed to slide trying to stretch the hit to a triple, and was out on a nice bit of fielding cooperation by D’Ziadosz and Papa.

Gasalberti scored the lone Junior Chamber tally on a pair of errors and an infield out in the top of the first inning.
