Kiwanis, with only two hits to their credit, still managed to edge the Rotary Club 5-4 last week in the inaugural contest for both teams. Five costly errors gave Rotary the loss.

Eugene Van Bierte, the losing Rotary hurler, pitched a beautiful game, but his mates started booting the ball early, as the Kiwanians took advantage of their opponents mistakes to push across a pair of runs in both the first and second innings.

Rotary, which unleashed a nine hit barrage, came back with two tallies in the bottom of the first and tied things up with another pair in the third. An unearned run in the top of the sixth and final frame won the ball game for Kiwanis though, as the Rotary was handcuffed in the bottom of the sixth.

Pitcher Van Bierte was as effective with the willow as he was on the mound for the Rotary, getting three safeties in three official at-bats. McGlynn, in right field, had two bingles for the losers, while Papa and D’Ziodosz each hit safely once for the victorious Kiwanians.

D’Ziodosz, the winning moundsman, was touched for nine safeties, but scattered them effectively and had it in the clutches to go the victory route.
